Purpose & Responsibilities
The Board of Park Commissioners is tasked with the management of all public parks in the City of Fitchburg. Per General Law Chapter 45 section 14, subject to the provisions of Fitchburg City Code Chapter 3, Article 10 the Board shall manage, direct, equip, and care for all public parks, playgrounds and the planting therein.
Additionally the Board oversees the Maintenance and supervision of all construction and buildings within park property. The Board oversees the layout and use of parks and per City Code has the authority to adopt rules and regulations in the parks, including any fees. The Board is also tasked with the supervision of the Recreation Division of the Fitchburg Department of Human Services.
The Board of Park Commissioners shall consist of five resident volunteers, appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by the Council, for five year terms and in the manner provided in General Law Chapter 45, section 2.
