This summer, MBTA contractors continue to work on Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line Wachusett Extension Project, including the repair or replacement of eight railroad bridges in the City of Fitchburg. Two of these bridges will require road closures to support the construction program.
River Street, Fitchburg, MA
Road Closure - Detours in effect
July 20th 2015, through Spring 2016
River Street/ Route 2A detours are expected to begin on July 20, 2015, traffic will be detoured via Wallace Road to facilitate the replacement of the Pan Am Bridge over River Street in West Fitchburg. This long term detour will allow construction crews to conduct work on the bridge and is anticipated to be in place until spring 2016.
Access to All Local Businesses along River Street will be maintained throughout this project. Pedestrian access through River St. will be also be maintained during this work.
Princeton Road, Fitchburg, MA
Single Lane Road Closure Beginning July 27th
Princeton Road detours are expected to begin on July 27, 2015. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal with a single lane of alternating traffic employed to facilitate repair work on the Pan Am Bridge over Princeton Road in West Fitchburg and are anticipated to be in place until spring 2016.
Variable message boards are on site to alert motorists and neighbors of these road closures. Trucks should seek alternate routes.
